We live across the street from the regional hospital so getting some light into the backyard is not a problem. Couple that with my neighbor's security lights and we've got some serious light pollution. I mean I can still see Pleiades on a clear night, but as far as the ground goes once one's eye's adjust, one does not need a flashlight. So we like to redefine various glow patterns employing solar landscape lighting, creating different areas: the patio, the deck, the pool entrance, etc. Take for instance this solar lantern with flickering flame effect. It is attractive, a tad small but serviceable. Unfortunately it is made of plastic. For someone living in Oklahoma, that limits it's outdoor placement. It could very easily be a centerpiece of any table. However the legendary Oklahoma winds are real, and if this were set on the ground, with it's small circular base and rounded bottom, it would be in a corner somewhere after an average windy day. So it has to be hung. And that's fine; there's a very nice hemp handle for that purpose. We decided to place it next to our new-ish birdhouse (unoccupied as yet) on the far side of the pool, hung from a shepherd's crook at about 4 ½ feet. The unit's light isn't quite strong enough for a cohesive pattern to reach the ground creating a resultant pool of light. And with the black body we have a flickering ghost light suspended in the air. The lantern has an On/Off switch and a large solar panel with which to deliver energy to the 600mAh AA battery. Once turned on it is self regulated for day and night hours. And the promised flickering/dancing works very well. With a pretty standard 6 to 8 hour charging time, it can last a good 8 to 10 hours. At IP 65 it is water resistant (not waterproof as claimed). But the way it is built, I don't see much vertical rain getting in due to the lip around the “lid”. And the lid is situated pretty tightly against horizontal moisture as well. Just so you know, if you are interested in multiple lanterns, right now (03/19/26) there is a 2 pack that you can get to by hitting the “shop items” link on the Product Page. It features a 2 pack for $24.99 offer if you buy 2 items. So going for it are the dancing flame effect and the low price. Going against it are it's lack of weight and the weakness of the light. Nothing disqualifying but to be considered. So for delivering what it promises and it's pricing I am giving this solar light 4 Stars.
I took this solar lantern camping and really liked the warm, dim light it gave off. It was perfect for marking walkways around our campsite without being too bright or harsh. The flickering flame effect is cute and adds a cozy touch at night. The main drawback is that mine did not turn on automatically. I had to take it out of the lantern to turn it on, which was a little difficult and not the most convenient, especially while camping. This is more of an accent light than a bright lantern, so I wouldn’t use it as my main light source. But it worked well for ambiance, walkways, tabletop decor, and adding a cozy outdoor feel. Overall, I liked it, but the on/off setup could be better.

Adorable item. I say adorable because it’s pretty small. It worked right out of the box and was still lit past midnight on the first and subsequent nights. It has a slight flicker that I could honestly live without, but that’s personal taste. The rope handle is a very nice touch, I only wish it was detachable so that I could easily hook it over a tree branch. With the attached handle it has to be shimmied from the end of a branch which may be impossible. This is a common missing feature on the vast majority of hanging solar decorations. It sort of ruins the look to get a hook on it so it can then be hung from that by just slipping the hoook over the branch anywhere but that’s what I’ll be doing. I also think it’s a bit overpriced for its size. If this was an 8.99 item I’d buy a BUNCH for my tree because the smaller size works really well there, but at 14.99 it would be a very expensive project. That said it’s a very nice and seemingly well made item that looks great. Ps the directions in the box are unclear but the “on/off” switch is on the bottom of the lid. Pull that off to turn it to “on”. Then just enjoy!!

These are beautiful, I have them hanging on a Shepards hook, a couple sitting on decorative logs and hung to from my wooden swing, they flicker like real flames.
These are very cute, but I have had them for a little over a week and 2 out of the 4 don’t work well any more. That’s a big disappointment for me.

Very pretty lights. They look like the pictures. With enough sunlight they can last most all of the night. The flickering gives an interesting effect. I have them in different places in my yard and they’re very eye catching.
